<b><i>Thanks for your continued interest in the legacy of the OCR Pilot GCSE Geography blog, which still lives on in work carried out in classrooms.</i></b><br />
<b><i>Thanks for reading over the years.</i></b>Alan Parkinsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14528013029514239163noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2918902520749462046.post-89104293809983741302012-07-10T16:16:00.001+01:002012-07-10T16:16:37.960+01:004 years on....It's now a few days short of <b><i><span style="color: red;">four years </span></i></b>since the last post on this blog....<br />
The <b>OCR Pilot Geography</b> is of course no more...<br />
There are also changes ahead for the OCR Specs that replaced it, not all of them welcomed by colleagues teaching the specification, but forced by OFQUAL in response to other pressures...<br />
<br />
I've had a fascinating four years since then with my role at the Geographical Association, and now as a freelance geographer and author....<br />
It's interesting to see that there's still interest in what we did back in 2006-8 here... around 30-50 visitors on most days...<br />

You need to consider whether this scheme could work in King's Lynn. If so, how could it be planned to work ? Where would you place the cycle stations ? What potential problems could there be ? How sustainable is the scheme ?<br /><br />Read this <a href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article4289943.ece">article from the TIMES</a>, which goes through some of the issues that the scheme is now facing.<br />Does this item focus on the good aspects or bad aspects of the scheme ?<br /><br />What are the impacts of Velib on encouraging cycling ? Cycling deaths are apparently well down, and there have been a total of 27 million Velib trips.<br /><br />Also thanks to SLN member Plene for pointing out <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/from_our_own_correspondent/7501691.stm">THIS ARTICLE</a> which has some useful information on <span style="font-weight: bold;">SVALBARD</span>: a good focus for an <span style="font-weight: bold;">EXTREME ENVIRONMENT.<br /></span>It starts:<span style="font-weight: bold;"><br /><br /></span><p style="font-style: italic;">It is forbidden to die in the Arctic town of Longyearbyen. </p><p style="font-style: italic;">Should you have the misfortune to fall gravely ill, you can expect to be despatched by aeroplane or ship to another part of Norway to end your days. </p><p><span style="font-style: italic;">And if you are terminally unlucky and succumb to misfortune or disease, no-one will bury you here.</span></p><p>Why do you think that might be ?</p>Alan Parkinsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14528013029514239163noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2918902520749462046.post-18035809967650773812008-07-12T18:50:00.001+01:002008-07-12T18:51:51.711+01:00DesertsMay be the extreme environment of choice in some schools...<br /><br /><div style="width:425px;text-align:left" id="__ss_139805"><object style="margin:0px" width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://static.slideshare.net/swf/ssplayer2.swf?doc=desert-introduction-1192827883984852-5"/><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"/><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/><embed src="http://static.slideshare.net/swf/ssplayer2.swf?doc=desert-introduction-1192827883984852-5" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="355"></embed></object><div style="font-size:11px;font-family:tahoma,arial;height:26px;padding-top:2px;"><a href="http://www.slideshare.net/?src=embed"><img src="http://static.slideshare.net/swf/logo_embd.png" style="border:0px none;margin-bottom:-5px" alt="SlideShare"/></a> | <a href="http://www.slideshare.net/aland/desert-introduction?src=embed" title="View Desert Introduction on SlideShare">View</a> | <a href="http://www.slideshare.net/upload?src=embed">Upload your own</a></div></div><br /><br />Thanks to Alan Doherty for presentation via SlideshareAlan Parkinsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14528013029514239163noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2918902520749462046.post-74675473712651325792008-07-10T12:24:00.005+01:002008-12-12T05:20:50.409+00:00Car SharingWhile having a mooch in Sheffield yesterday, I saw this car. Why ?<br /><br />2. Think through the various stages involved in taking a bus journey – try to account for every stage in the journey. Produce this in the form of a flow chart. I will get you started on this...<br /><br />3. Now try to think of the different problems that could occur at each of the stages, which might <span style="font-weight: bold;">put people off</span> using the bus as a form of transport. Remember that not everyone is able bodied and has all their senses working 100%<br /><br />4. Now try to come up with a solution to the problem that would encourage people to keep using the bus<br /><br />Where do the following fit into this ?<br /><br />· Heavy rainfall<br /><br />· Bus full by the time it gets to your stop<br /><br />· Electronic information boards<br /><br />· Kneeling bus<br /><br />· Bus shelters<br /><br />· Oyster cards<br /><br />· Pre-payment ticketsAlan Parkinsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14528013029514239163noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2918902520749462046.post-57791758610627777472008-06-24T16:49:00.001+01:002008-06-24T16:52:57.900+01:00And..... relax......<span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">They think it's all over....</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">It is now...<br /><br /><span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">Any thoughts ?</span><br /></span></span>Alan Parkinsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14528013029514239163noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2918902520749462046.post-86163885387087378022008-06-23T21:34:00.002+01:002008-06-23T21:35:27.818+01:00Last minute reading......on cheap T Shirts<br /><a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7468927.stm">BBC NEWS MAGAZINE article</a> and little iPlayer video<br />Relates to tonight's PANORAMA programme.Alan Parkinsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14528013029514239163noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2918902520749462046.post-81831325566168855062008-06-23T20:56:00.002+01:002008-06-23T21:18:09.098+01:00A final Tony Cassidy contribution...If you get an A*, you owe Tony a pint....<br /><br /><div style="width:425px;text-align:left" id="__ss_481831"><object style="margin:0px" height="355" width="425"><param name="movie" value="http://static.slideshare.net/swf/ssplayer2.swf?doc=quicktips-1214249087482457-9"/><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"/><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/><embed src="http://static.slideshare.net/swf/ssplayer2.swf?doc=quicktips-1214249087482457-9" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="355"></embed></object><div style="font-size:11px;font-family:tahoma,arial;height:26px;padding-top:2px;"><a href="http://www.slideshare.net/?src=embed"><img src="http://static.slideshare.net/swf/logo_embd.png" style="border:0px none;margin-bottom:-5px" alt="SlideShare"/></a> | <a href="undefined" title="View this slideshow on SlideShare">View</a> | <a href="http://www.slideshare.net/upload">Upload your own</a></div></div><br /><br />We will use an edited version of this, where we look at OUR PLACE, and also Svalbard rather than Antarctica...Alan Parkinsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14528013029514239163noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2918902520749462046.post-30383062931170845552008-06-23T18:52:00.003+01:002008-06-23T20:20:11.937+01:00Exam tomorrow...<span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">D</span>o a few last minute bits of revision tonight</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">G</span>et a good night's sleep - don't stay up late</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">D</span>on't forget to bring your equipment with you tomorrow</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">S</span>et the alarm clock before you go to bed</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">E</span>at breakfast !<br /><br />So don't forget: <span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">DGDSE</span>....<br /><br /></span>And don't forget FUGIS either....<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger2/4638/356311342864924/1600/Slide1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px;
